Basel A. ABDEL-WAHAB

Dr. Sci. (Pharm.)

Professor of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the College of Pharmacy of the Najran University (Najran, Saudi Arabia), Professor of the Department of Medical Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine of the Assiut University, Assiut, Egypt

Research interests

Neuropharmacology, nanotechnology in pharmacotherapy, innovative cancer therapy development, and toxicology.

Key research accomplishments

B.A. Abdel-Wahab studies medicinal products that affect the CNS, their mechanisms of action, and their potential interactions with other medicinal products or chemical agents. He investigates the use of nanovectors in drug targeting through the blood–brain barrier, in RNA and gene targeting to the brain and tumour cells, and in vaccines for cancer therapy. B.A. Abdel-Wahab is interested in the use of nanocarriers for cancer chemotherapy and overcoming resistance to antineoplastics. His research contributes to the development of innovative pharmacotherapy for various types of cancer and the reduction of toxicities associated with cancer chemotherapy. In addition, B.A. Abdel-Wahab studies the effects of medicines on cellular DNA damage and repair and their role in the treatment of neurologic and neoplastic diseases. B.A. Abdel-Wahab researches the effects of medicines on cellular signal transduction, cytokines, chemokines, nuclear factors, and transcription factors. His works focus on the toxicity of medicines, xenobiotics, and chemicals in various body systems and on the potential effects of novel protective agents. B.A. Abdel-Wahab also studies new targets for breast, colon, and prostate cancer therapy, as well as novel strategies to enhance the anticancer activity of medicines and to reduce their possible toxicity.
