Research interests

Pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenetics, preclinical and clinical studies of new medicines, bioethics, use of digital technologies in evaluation of medicine use.

Key research accomplishments

Author of innovative educational courses. He has been an invited speaker at international congresses. In November 2023, he presented the position of the Russian scientific community on bioethics at the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris.

Academician Alexander L. Khokhlov participated in the formation of the regulatory framework for the clinical pharmacology service in the Russian Federation, as well as in the development of the list of vital and essential medicines of the Russian Federation. As Chairman of the Ethics Council under the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, he is directly involved in the ethical review of materials of clinical trials of medicines, including ones designed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus infection.

Scientific supervisor of 31 candidate and 10 doctoral theses in Medical Sciences.

Publication activity

Author of about 500 scientific works, 22 monographs, 33 textbooks and manuals, 11 patents for invention.

Hirsch Index: 44 (RSCI), 19 (Scopus).

Awards

Badge of Honour for Excellence in Healthcare (2009), Certificate of Merit of the Yaroslavl Regional Duma (2023), Letter of Gratitude of the Federation Council (2019), Letter of Gratitude of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation (2021).

In 2022 he was awarded the Certificate of Honour of the President of the Russian Federation.

In 2023 he was awarded the medal of the Department for Church Charity and Social Service of the Russian Orthodox Church for works of mercy.
