Somnology, clinical neurophysiology, pathology of autonomic nervous system, epilepsy, extrapyramidal disorders, multiple sclerosis, cerebrovascular disorders, neurogenic pain syndromes, diseases of peripheral nervous system.

Key research accomplishments

Academician N.N. Yakhno is a major Russian scientist, a continuator of the traditions of the Moscow neurological school. His main scientific works are devoted to sleep and wakefulness disorders, parkinsonism, multiple sclerosis, neurogenic pain, cognitive disorders of memory, attention, Alzheimer's disease, cerebral circulation disorders, headaches, back pain and neuropathic pain syndromes, pathology of the autonomic nervous system, wakefulness and sleep disorders, organisation of neurological care.

N.N. Yakhno's merit is the development of a new direction in clinical neurology - neurogeriatrics. He studied topical issues in a number of scientific researches devoted to chronic cerebrovascular insufficiency and neurodegenerative diseases of the central nervous system, traumatic injuries of peripheral nerves and organisation of specialised medical care for back pain in elderly and senile people.

Under the guidance of N.N. Yakhno, more than 70 candidate and doctoral theses have been defended.

Publication activity

Author and co-author of more than 500 scientific publications, including more than 20 monographs, guidelines for doctors, textbooks for students.
