Pharmacology, clinical pharmacology: research of new domestic and foreign pharmacological agents, development of methods and principles of experimental and clinical trials, safety of medicines.
Key research accomplishments
Prof. V.K. Lepakhin made a significant contribution to national and international health care. He participated in the development of methods and principles of experimental and clinical research. As a WHO expert he took part in the development and was one of the founders of international standards for evaluation of medicines Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP). He developed and introduced a system of testing new medicines that meets international standards into the Pharmacological Committee's practice.
He became the founder of the Russian system of pharmacovigilance, consisting of federal and regional centres for the study of adverse effects of medicines. This system was highly appreciated by WHO, and Russia was officially accepted into the WHO Programme for International Medicine Monitoring.
V.K. Lepakhin supervised 6 doctoral and 20 candidate theses.
Publication activity
Author and co-author of more than 200 scientific articles in refereed scientific journals, a textbook on clinical pharmacology for students (1988), a manual on clinical pharmacology for physicians (1994), monographs on the subject of drug safety control and methodological recommendations.

On V.K. Lepakhin's initiative, since 1994 Safety and Risk of Pharmacotherapy starts to be published in Russia.

Full member of the International Academy of Higher School Sciences and the International Academy of Informatisation. Honourable member of the Royal College of Physicians (London).
